My pirate name is:

Captain Mary Bonney

Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

Jul. 22nd, 2006 @ 09:28 am I'm soooooo bad at this....
Current Location: Work, don't tell anybody I'm not actually working....
Current Mood: contemplative
Ok, I'll admit it, at this point I'm not even sure why I have a LJ, I've been working like 10-14 hour days at the new job and it seems like I can never get on line long enough to post, but I suppose there are people out there that wanna know what the heck is going on so here goes.....

I made 10 bonnets to sell at Dallas Heritage Village, ya'll go out a buy one, they're awesome! I didn't take any pictures of them, cause Paula (at the Museum Store) was really wanting them like three days ago when I finally got them finished, but maybe I could get a shot or two of what's left next time I go to the park.

Yeah, I quit Legal Network, I'm now working 10-14 hour days for Xact IDS doing electronic discovery. You might ask yourself, what the heck is that! Well, it's all sorts of technical stuff that boils down to telling to computer to do something, then waiting 10-14 hours and seeing if it actually does what you ask it to do (most times it doesn't, sight). The pays not too bad, but the only reason I'm here is the BENNIES. That's right folks, I have finally broken out of the 60%(?)of the population of Texas that doesn't have health insurance! WooHoo. Now if I could just get some sleep!!!!!

Hopi, my cat, might or might not be a TV star for ten seconds or less this fall. Tracy got a call from Prison Break (which is filming in Dallas) and they wanted a cat, I'm sure that I can't tell you why, so I won't, but let's just say the filming didn't go as planned, and last I heard they were discussing if they were going to cut the scene or not, doesn't matter to me though, cause we already got paid for it. I've been thinking of having a First Prison Break of the Season/House Warming Party for the new place, but I don't know yet if I would have time to even think about working on that sort of thing.

Besides that, and trying to plan THE BIGGEST SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR TRACY EVER! I've just been working my ass off.... Oh, except I watched "My-Future-Hubby-If-He-Ever-Leaves-That-Dorthea-Chick" on Crossroads with Sugarland, I take all the "I wanna be Liv Tyler when I grow up" stuff back..... I wanna be Jennifer Nettles, but with my own hair.

Ok, after several months of not posting, I'm back and it's time for an update. First off, thanks to Hamish and Angus Richardson of Brother, the pinkies is HEALED!!!!! (and the crowd goes wild)!!! They signed my splint at North Texas Irish Fest and it's started feeling better almost right away (and no, it didn't have anything to do with Hamish smiling at me..... ok, maybe a little bit).

Tracy, the roommate, is loving the job, and is trying to get me on at Dallas Heritage Village on the weekends helping in the ticket office. I'm also making bonnets and quilts for the store (yeah!!!!!). I've got 9 that I'm trying to finish this week, four of which I've finished and one that I'm about half way through.

I (and all of us at work) am once again at the whim of the Dallas Legal Community as far as work. If there are lawyers out there in Dallas that need coding CALL LEGAL NETWORK!!!

I also signed up at MySpace since I found out through Paula (Tracy's buddy at DHV who runs the museum store) that the guys on Ghost Hunters have a MySpace account, and they posted there that they were coming to Texas (seems like you need to be on MySpace to be in the loop for some things). My MySpace page is "www.myspace.com/laughingcoyotequilts", swing by and have a look see some time. It's interesting. I'll try to keep up with the lj and maybe blog on MySpace too. I've got some pictures of Tracy's outfit, although I'm going to have to find the camera so I can upload them. Expect to see them here soon.

Civil War trivia/rant of the day: Today in 1861 - The first major battle of the Civil War hasn't happened yet, and won't happen until the middle of July. I have noticed that at DHV some people think that the War is on, when the first major battle hasn't happened yet (although Ft Sumter has been fired on, that was what precipitated the war, not the first battle, the first battle is First Bull Run).

Man, that sounds like a bad B-Horror movie, but it's totally true.

In answer to all of you all's burning questions, not it's not back to 100% yet, although slowly but surely I can move it more (I check whenever I re-wrap the thing in it's Aluminum and foam splint). However, for now I'm getting better (at least on a full sized keyboard) at working around it.

Good news, although I hate to jinx myself, but I have an interview tomorrow in Richardson, hopefully the good mojo from [info]buenabuena getting her new job will rub off and I can finally get some money coming in to the house (and does the words FULL BENEFITS mean anything to anyone?)!

But the best-ist thing of all TWO MORE DAYS UNTIL HAMISH-FEST, er, North Texas Irish Festival, and you all are invited.

Ok folks, that's it, I'm pretty convinced that my pinky has been severely damaged. I hurt it on Sunday (see previous post) and it's now Friday and it still hurts to bend the damn thing.I do however have it splinted, still and hope that it'll be atleast somewhat functionaly by the time that I get back to work (whenever the hell THAT will be).

I have managed cause of the pinky to duck both straightening the storage space AND helping shear sheep at Dallas Heritage, but who know how long that'll last.

I did make it the see The Black Watch. They're pretty damn impressive, and from the pre-show milling around that they did, pretty damn polite (but I suppose that's from being both military AND British).

8 more days until Brother at North Texas Irish Festival. Maybe I'll wear the splint even if my pinky is feeling better, I can always hope that if I can actually finally meet the band (which we didn't get to last time at the Highland Games)that Hamish'll feel sorry for me and maybe give me a hug or sometime (I can always dream)!

Nemesis
Indeed, you are 66% erudite, 58% sensual, 62% martial, and 79% saturnine.
This daughter of the Greek Goddess Nyx was initially thought of as a harsh force of opposition. However, she was later softened to represent the feeling of just resentment or righteous anger against those who committed crimes with apparent impunity, or who had inordinate good fortune.

Her name, Nemesis, means "she who distributes or deals out". And that she did. As she was the one directing human affairs in such a way as to maintain equilibrium of happiness and unhappiness, she could bring about losses and suffering if you made the impression of being “too” happy.

Being the one who checked extravagant favours by Tyche (or Fortuna, as the Romans called her), she was regarded as an avenging or punishing divinity, so it only makes sense that the Goddess of Punishment, Poena, was an attendant of Nemesis.

Despise all this suffering and vengeance, she is also said to have been as beautiful as Aphrodite. Her attributes were, among others, a rein, a sword, or a balance.

The Fifteen Goddesses

These are the 15 categories of this test. If you score above average in …

WHOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! The skirt if now officially two darts from being done, totally and completely finished. WHOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Now if I can just nail Tracy's feet to the floor ..... wait, that won't work, she won't be able to try it on. If I can get her to stay still long enough to try the damn thing on, I can finish it finish it.

Of course, never one to rest on my laurels (and in the spirit of getting all of Tracy's stuff DONE!!!). I went ahead and started on the buttons on her long coat and I found out that I don't have enough buttons, I am 3 buttons short (22 instead of 25) and I am just so burned up about it (NOT!!!!). Oh well, just that less to do I suppose. I got all of them sewn on, and now for 22 buttonholes and a hem, and that'll be done.

After that, one more shirt and one more split skirt (and a short jacket if I have enough material) and I'll be back to my quilts. Oh joy.

Ok, so I'm here trying to avoid sewing MORE buttons onto the riding skirt that would not die and I decided to scoot around on the Information Superhighway. I decided to do a little searchy-search on Roller Derby since [info]buenabuena has gotten me somewhat hooked on Rollergirls and the Old Scholl RD fan in me was wondering "Where are the Boys?!?!?!?!?!"

Well, I didn't find the boys, atleast not any new one's, but I did find this website http://www.rollerderbypreservationassociation.com/. I looked around and found ALOT of people listed that I knew growing up in LA. I even found Shirley Hardman listed and it got me thinking that I must have been around 3 or 4, 5 at the most when Shirley used to drag me up on the track as the unofficial T-Bird mascot (atleast that's what my Granny used to tell me). It had to be that long ago since she passed in 1973. Damn I feel old sometimes.

Of course I also found my first crush, a skater named Tory Christopher (this was LONG before my hubby to be Mister JBJ). I also found a bunch of people that I just loved to drool over in my teenage years. I was a little disappointed that most of the files on the people aren't filled out, but it seems to be a realtively new website.

Ok, so, in the last couple of days the following has happened (In no particular order)...

1) Got news that I might be out of a job sometime in the near future (shrug, we all kinda knew it was coming, didn't we?)
2) Got news that the woman that runs the museum store at OCP, er, Dallas Hertiage Village might be interested in selling my quilts and stuff at the store (YIPEEE)
3) Got news that my "husband" (as BuenaBuena calls him) Mr. Jon Bon Jovi is going to be on West Wing in March (YIPPEE).
4) Got confirmation that my roommate might actually have a job where she can *gasp* relax and chill at.
5) Got a phone call for an interview for a gig in Addison.
6) Got a 4 PAGE LONG SURVEY from an other job prospect asking me to fill out and return ASAP so they can set up an interview "right away".
7) Almost got Tracy's new outfit done (just needs some interfacing and a whole hell of a lot of buttons, photos when it's done, I promiss)

Hmmmm, Can't really decide if I've had a good couple of days or not. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

First off, Happy New Year to anyone dropping by to read this.

A little confession first off, I did not go the Tipp Inn as planned, we (my roommate Tracy & I) went to the movies and saw Chronicles of Narnia. Pretty kick butt movie, considering it was a bit disneyized.

Today was a well... interesting day. Never one to stay home and relax on her day off Tracy decided she wanted to go driving around instead of staying at home and watching the gazillion movies that are just sitting on our shelf saying "Watch me damn it!". So, not knowing this quite yet, silly me, I go with her for her daily coffee fix at the overprice mall coffe store (which will remain nameless) and then, upon getting back in the car she turns to me and announces the CHANGE OF PLANS.... which is quickly followed by her favorite question "So, where do you want to go?". Figuring "Home so I can work on my quilt and your dress that you might need as soon as Wendsday" was not the answer that she was looking for I replied with "I don't know."

Cut to ten minutes later when I finally mention that we had been avoiding going to find where Millermore Mansion used to stand (mostly cause its in OAK CLIFF!). And the next thing I knew off we went.

The tour of the day consisted of the following:

Almost getting lost looking for the Good Street Baptist Church (where Millermore used to sit).
Getting horribly lost looking for the Miller Family Cemetary (Tracy likes taking pictures of headstones, don't ask me why) and finding the Overton Family Cemetary instead.
Finding the Miller Family Cemetary and paying my respects to my Old City Park character's husband's boss.
Looking for Oakland Cemetary where Gen. Richard Gano (another Old City Park dead guy) is buried - lets just say its on Malcolm X Blvd and leave it at that.
Lunch at Snuffer's on Greenville (Haunted? I wish, cause maybe the ghosts would have given us better service).
Back to Oakland Cemetary cause Tracy had run out of film.
On to Pioneer Cemetary looking for the trifecta of Old City Park dead guys, Daniel Sullivan (who was no where to be found).

Where are Grant and Jason when you need them?

Ok, as most of you know I have some of the most eclectic tastes in music, for instance:

Awesome A Capella Band from San Francisco - Check
Hot brother duo from Australia that play both the bagpipes and Didjerido - Check
Original (and second interation) of fabulous A Capella Band from '80s kids show - Check
Super hot hair band from the 80s that is still rocking the house and has over 100,000,000 albums sold - big time check
Local pirate group sensation - Check
Cheeky Anglo Rap Star/Movie actor - Check
Pop music with a good beat - Check
Scottish Music - Check
Broadway music about the Civil War - Check
Civil War music - Check
Gospel - Check
Classical - Check

Well, you get the idea.

Anyway, having been on a two month high cause numero uno rockband from the 80s has a new album out, and having been on a couple of day high after the trip to Austin to see the newest interation of the fabulous A Capella Band I was looking around on iTunes today and found something from a band that I hadn't even thought about for a while.

A Band that shaped me as a child.

A band that I listen to that actually won a Grammy damn it!

That's right, the last secret music love is now going to be out of the closet, cause I just found out that Restless Heart is back together and has a new album out!

Ok, let the harrassing begin.

Current Music: "Presents" by Rockapella (w/ Sean Altman of course)
Ok folks, be nice, cause this is my first entry but I do have to share this one.

As most of you know that know me (buenabuena and the rest of the gang at work) I am an unrepentant Bon Jovi fan, but I am also a rabid listener to of Contemporary A Capella music (most notably Rockapella and those hunks of San Francisco yumminess The House Jacks).

Well, as you might or might not know, Rockapella has undergone a HUGE personnel change since the days of "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" (Yes, that is were you know them from). They were in Austin Friday night for a "Holiday show" which was attended by yours truly, and Tracy.

While looking for the perfect outfit to wear to said festivities I came across a sweater that I had inherited from one of Tracy's friends, one that is a wee bit too festive to even wear to work. Since I was trying to narrow down the options for the overnight trip I asked said roommate for advise, trying to describe the sweater etc (big Santa on a chair, presents, etc) and finally just summed it up as

"You know, the sweater that looks like Rockafeller Center threw up on me."

This of course is for ever and ever going to be the name of this sweater, I hope it's happy.

And yeah, I wore it to the concert, but there is NO photographic proof of this fact, thank God.

Oh yeah, and the concert was pretty good too.
